Samsung's Chairman of the Board, Lee, dies at 78


Lee Kun-Hee, chairman of the South Korean technology giant Samsung, died at the age of 78. Lee was known as the richest person in his country.

Technology giant Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-Hee passed away at the age of 78. In the statement made by the company regarding Lee's death, "As Samsung, we will all keep his memory alive. We are grateful for the journey we shared with him."

He was the richest person in South Korea

After the death of his father Lee Byung-Chul in 1987, Lee made Samsung the world's largest technology company, where he became Chairman of the Board. According to Forbes, Lee was the richest person in South Korea, with a fortune of around $ 21 billion.

Lee Kun-Hee resigned from his post in 2008, following charges of tax evasion and corruption. Receiving a 3-year prison sentence for tax evasion, Lee was acquitted in 2009 after South Korean President Lee Myung-bak issued a special amnesty. Lee returned as chairman of the board in 2010.
